Wine: a number of properties in a single drink!

The many studies conducted over the years confirm that, under responsible consumption, wine provides a number of benefits for our body. There is more than one reason why a good glass of this enjoyable drink, from the most common bottle to a fine label, can be very beneficial for our health and well-being. Antioxidant action – Wine, especially red one, is an excellent antioxidant. The presence of resveratrol, a phyenol occurring in grape skins, prevents tumours, has an anti-mutagenic action on some cells and stimulates the activity of some enzymes that help dispose of potentially carcinogenic compounds.

Anti-depressive action – According to research conducted on 5,500 moderate drinkers, drinking from two to seven glasses of wine per week reduces the risk of depression. Once consumed, ethanol circulating in the body interferes with brain neurons and produces a feeling of euphoria with an anti-depressive, calming effect that causes inhibitions to disappear.

Controls cholesterol –It is now a proven fact that red wine has positive effects on the liver’s activity and stimulates it to produce “good” cholesterol.  Resveratrol lowers the levels of LDL cholesterol in the blood, thereby considerably preventing the formation of obstructions in blood vessels.

Helps blood circulation – This is one of better-known and popular effects of wine. It is a well-known fact that a glass of wine during meals can counter heart conditions like heart attacks and strokes, as well as arteriosclerosis.

Digestive system – The anti-inflammatory and bactericide properties of wine counter germs like salmonella and shigella, which cause dysentery. Wine also counters Helicobacter pylori, the main pathogen of the gastric lining.
